Appeal for Justice and the Rule of Law

“I want to call on all people who care about justice. This is not about whether we are left, right, pro-Russian or pro-Western, nor whether we support ‘Levski’ or CSKA. I am speaking about one very important word – ‘justice’. I am addressing the people who want to live in a lawful society. Regardless of whether we like a certain person or not, let that person have the right to live and develop according to the law, and not be removed based on personal preferences.

If we act on the principle “I like him – I don’t like him,” tomorrow we will end up in a situation where judgments will be made about us in the same way. This is the worst thing for the development of a society and a nation.

Political Pressure and Repressive Methods

Tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. I call on those of you who want to stand up for justice to come in front of the Courthouse and enter inside. A case “with clubs” will be heard, which is a political case, not one where real crimes of specific individuals are examined. Heavy charges are being formed, people are being forced to lie in detention, and they are subjected to pressure. There is always someone who becomes frightened and decides to say what the police instructed him to say.

The same tactic has been used against all detainees. They are left without food, water, and sleep, and after two days they are told: “Do you want to be warm and hug your loved ones? Sign these statements here and you can go home.” It is normal for some people not to endure, especially when their families are outside without means. When a person is broken, he has no good move left, even if he does not realize that everything will fall on him again with great force.

In the 21st century we cannot have such justice and such treatment of human beings. Everyone must receive what they deserve according to what the law has determined. We must have a law that works properly for everyone, and not have legal provisions changed to detain inconvenient individuals.

Double Standards in Justice

The mayor of Varna, Ivan Portnih, is already a defendant under charges by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office for 3 million euros connected to a non-existent port. Yet we do not see him being arrested, kept in detention, pressured, or all participants in the scheme being taken in. There is a procedure – first, second, and third instance – and only then, based on a conviction, is it decided whether the person will go to prison.

In both cases these are financial crimes, not a violent repeat offender or a murderer. Moreover, the people involved have not been convicted, and some of them do not even know why they are there. Since they need people in order to construct an organized criminal group, they drag them inside, force them, and carry out all sorts of abuses.

Final Call for Protest

Tomorrow, Thursday, 4 December, I call on everyone to come at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Courthouse. I call on those who care about justice and want equal law for all, without party bias and without personal liking or disliking.

I will be there tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. I expect those of you who truly believe in the law and in the idea that justice must be the same for everyone to be there as well.”
