Ivelin Mihaylov: The geopolitical situation and an analysis of the domestic political model

Обновена на 16.12.2025 - 02:31 от admin

In the video “What Will the Role of ‘Velichie’ Be?”, Ivelin Mihaylov touches on two main topics:

  1. The geopolitical situation and an analysis of the domestic political model
  2. The role of the political party “Velichie” and its governance program

This article focuses on the first topic: “The geopolitical situation and an analysis of the domestic political model.”

The “party-mafia” political model

Ivelin Mihaylov defines the current governing structure in Bulgaria as a “party-mafia.” This system operates through a symbiosis between Boyko Borissov and Delyan Peevski. Borissov holds the greatest power and has the political instruments to distribute influence. Peevski acts as an aggressive businessman who uses the state apparatus to appropriate other people’s assets.

Transformation of corruption pressure

A significant change is observed in how the authorities interact with business. In the past, Borissov demanded payments from companies in the form of a “tax,” but ensured their protection and peace of mind. Peevski’s current model is fundamentally different. He is not satisfied with a share of the profit, but aims for full takeover of businesses. This behavior provokes fear and hatred among big capital, since no one feels protected from repression and the theft of assets.

State of the parliamentary forces

The political parties in the National Assembly serve the status quo or simulate opposition activity.

The role of “Vazrazhdane”

The party “Vazrazhdane” plays the role of an auxiliary actor that blocks the possibility of forming an alternative government. The party leadership always emphasizes foreign-policy topics—such as the fight against the euro—in order to avoid a domestic political unification against GERB and DPS. Through its votes, “Vazrazhdane,” together with GERB and DPS, forms a hidden majority of over 130 MPs, which makes the success of any real opposition impossible.

Dependencies of the other formations

The PP–DB coalition lost voters’ trust after its unsuccessful attempt to outplay Borissov and Peevski. Other parties such as ITN, BSP, and MECH are described as dependent structures that serve certain lobbies or factions of DPS.

Geopolitical interests and international relations

External factors have no interest in Bulgaria being a stable and economically strong state.

The interests of the great powers

The European Union treats the country as a “dumping ground” for waste and a source of cheap labor. European partners tolerate corruption because it does not create problems for them. Russia also benefits from Bulgaria’s destabilization. It uses the country’s poor condition for domestic propaganda, to show its population the failure of the European model. The United States aims to weaken the European Union by maintaining a weak periphery.

Regrouping around the President

External players have withdrawn their trust from Borissov and P
