Antique Weekend at Historical Park (July 25 and 26): A Celebration of Thracian Culture and Sports

Обновена на 08.07.2026 - 11:49 от admin

Ivelin Mihaylov and Milen Petrov announce the upcoming antique weekend at Historical Park, which combines historical reenactments with large-scale sports competitions for visitors.

Transformation of the Traditional Festival

The organizers are transforming the annual antique festival into a two-day antique weekend to better meet visitors' expectations and facilitate their access. The event takes place on July 25 and 26 in the Thracian section of Historical Park and showcases the rich heritage of ancient culture in the Bulgarian lands. Milen Petrov specifies that in the past, the initiative had different thematic focuses, including the uprising of Spartacus, Thracian peltasts, and the glory of the Roman Empire. Every year, the forum gathers prominent historical reenactment groups from the country and abroad, who present a specific theme within the general exhibition of ancient civilizations.

Promoting History and Virtues

Ivelin Mihaylov shares the view that courage, bravery, and self-sacrifice for the homeland represent core driving forces in all ancient cultures. He believes that building an accessible popular culture sparks people's interest in history and literature. According to him, when citizens get a close-up look at the past, they gain a natural desire to visit such historical sites.

Sports Competitions and Ancient Games

The sports program includes various disciplines that recreate the combat skills of ancient warriors. Traditionally, on the second day, ancient warrior games under the name "Arete" are held, which represent archaic precursors to the Olympic competitions. These tournaments, which feature a cash prize fund, are open to all guests of the park and include competitions for both adults and children.

The main sports activities during the weekend cover:

  • Classic races and running in full combat gear.
  • Wrestling according to ancient rules.
  • Heavy stone throw and discus throw.
  • Javelin throwing for accuracy and distance.

A Call for Sportsmanship and Unity

Ivelin Mihaylov extends an official invitation to various sports clubs, civil organizations, and political parties to send their representatives to the games. Participants have the opportunity to compete under their own banners in a completely sportsmanlike environment.

Aspect of the competition Description according to the organizers
Purpose of the invitation Uniting different organizations through sports and good deeds.
Opposition Replacing verbal attacks and mutual mudslinging with real athletic achievements.
Openness The competitions are open to people with completely different views and beliefs.

The organizers take the opportunity to refute television claims about the park's doors being closed and call on people to become part of this honorable ancient celebration. The event also features a rich evening program on Saturday, giving guests the chance to dine and enjoy the atmosphere late into the night.
