Ivelin Mihaylov: How to Create the Bulgarian Elite Through Education and Reading Books

Обновена на 11.01.2026 - 00:58 от admin

Ivelin Mihaylov (Ивелин Михайлов) argues that Bulgarians must build their own state and create a new governing elite through books and education, so they do not remain “second-class people” and pawns in the hands of hidden global networks and local political “jesters.”

Below is the full transcript of the text, divided by topics:

The Need for Independent State-Building

“Hello everyone. We are recording this video between the Christmas and New Year holidays, because this is the time when we have a little more space to read and share some thoughts with you. We see that there are many different proposals about what should be done so that Bulgaria can thrive. Some people say we should turn to the European Union, others to Russia, and still others to the United States.

From my years of experience, I have understood the following: if we do not build our own state in such a way that capable and knowledgeable people are given a chance, we will always remain ‘second-class people.’ We should not look for the cause in someone wanting to harm us. The world simply works in such a way that the better prepared always win. I have always known that we must create education, an academy, and an elite capable of governing Bulgaria if we are to progress—an elite different from the one currently in power.

The Hidden Mechanisms of Power

I bought a book by the author Joseph Plummer (Джозеф Плъмър). This work is based on the research of a Harvard history professor – Carroll Quigley (Карл Куийг). The information is not conspiratorial or secret. In his works, written decades ago (such as “Tragedy and Hope”), Quigley explains that the world is governed by a group of people he calls “the network.” These are not the politicians or presidents we see, but second-line figures who remain invisible. The real rulers are unseen, while those in the spotlight are merely executors.

Many years ago, I began thinking about how to help the country beyond the “Historical Park” (Исторически парк). The first thing was to begin educating young people—to make them knowledgeable and capable. Change among older people happens very slowly, while among the young it is much easier.

The Role of Universities and the Origin of the Elite

The book describes the birthplace of the “network.” I will read an excerpt from page 33:

“The birthplace of the network. Nearly 1,000 years ago, a university was founded in England. Nearly a thousand years later, that university not only still exists but is ranked first in the United Kingdom and consistently among the top ten universities in the world... Oxford has a long and remarkable history. It has produced dozens of prime ministers, archbishops, saints, renowned economists such as Adam Smith, and writers such as Tolkien and Aldous Huxley... Oxford also created, about 150 years ago, the founders of the network.”

Those who govern the world come from universities. For Bulgaria to prosper and become a country we can be proud of—just as we are proud of athletes like Carlos Nassar or Kubrat Pulev—we need a university that can produce such an elite. Not the corrupt schools of DPS and GERB, but a real school.

The Lack of Morality in Today’s Governance

According to statesmen such as Henry Kissinger, the moral principles and laws that restrict ordinary people do not apply to the “chosen ones.” To avoid accountability, the ruling class simply invokes the name of the state. This is the same stance taken by rulers in the past who justified their crimes in the name of God. Today’s rulers have replaced God with the state—and conveniently, they themselves are the state. They want to control people and resources in ways that serve them. Bulgarian politicians are a pale imitation of these structures.

As Machiavelli wrote: when you conquer a state, you place a group of oligarchs to rule it on your behalf. I am one of the ordinary people. In Bulgaria, there is no aristocracy, except perhaps the communist elite of recent decades. I want capable people, willing people, people with moral values, to be given a chance.

Creating an Alternative Through Education

The decision I made years ago was to publish books and create an academy. I can say that in Bulgaria the only academy close to the Oxford model is Together Academy (Together Academy). It creates people who can change things and builds a modern elite. We publish serious literature, such as the three volumes of “Sons of the Great Bear” and many other titles.

Those in power claim that books are sectarian and should not be read. I, however, believe that books are a great treasure. For example, I paid over 90 leva for a second copy of the book “The Richest Man Who Ever Lived” – the biography of Jakob Fugger. This is priceless knowledge.

The Harm of Drugs and the Importance of a Clear Mind

Here I want to make an important clarification for young people: do not smoke marijuana and do not take drugs. They damage the brain and hinder the processing of information. Drugs make you “second-class people” and you will never be among those who govern—you will be governed. Do not follow the example of people like Lyubo Zhechev (Любо Жечев).

A Mission for Independence

The book about Fugger shows how the world develops—always through reading and knowledge. We will publish this book because it is important for anyone who wants to control their own life and live in a free state. This is important so that you do not become mere executors of someone else’s will, like police officers forced to commit violence.

What we are doing is not a business—it is a mission. Without it, Bulgaria will never be an independent and strong country. An ordinary person can achieve a great deal if they have knowledge. I managed to stand up to those who govern the state thanks to knowledge and the team from the academy.

A Call to Those Who Want to Grow

I address those who truly want to understand how the world is run and do not want to be pawns. They are welcome at Together Academy. This is where we will create the new Bulgarian elite. The political party “Vazrazhdane” (Величие) is also an excellent school in which the academy plays an important role.

Young people, do not think that by doing foolish things you will gain something. Life is not a circus. You can live it with dignity and be creators. We have proven that we are the best at what we do. GERB, PP–DB, Vazrazhdane, and DPS have not done even a fraction of this in terms of education. We entered politics out of necessity, but our main goal is to create an environment for development.”
